We have roughly gone through "Ban-sang" and few stories about it. Today by the end of this writing you will be able to tell "types of korean meals" and Regional food specialties.
Ban-sang is the very typical korean meal served with a bowl of rice. When a meal is served with alcohol and side dish instead, it's called Ju-an-sang, which comes from chinese letters meaning alcohol and side dish. If noodle is served as main dish it's called Jang-guk-sang. It's usually seen at an wedding or party where there is something to celeberate. In other word, it's also called Ip-mat-sang. The noodle is called Jan-chi-guk-su(party noodle).
There is Ken-sang, a main display meal set on a big table in the middle of a party. Interestingly, korean meal at a party is served on a small table called Gyo-ja-sang, there are Sik-gyo-ja, Gun-gyo-ja, and Ul-gyo-ja. Sik-gyo-ja is the one with rice meal, Gun-gyo-ja is the one with alcohol with dried side dishes, and Ul-gyo-ja with both rice and alcohol. If you eat out at a korean BBQ restaurant at night there are heaps of people having Ul-gyo-ja style dinner, rice and alcohol altogether, they won't know what they are having though.
Once again, unlikely french few-course-meal, Koreans saperate meals and deasert. Korean tea table called Da-Gwa-snag is distiguished as dessert, it is served when there is importat guest. If the guest is on husband, Ju-an-sang with alcohol is served, on wife, normal Da-gwa-sang along with snacks and korean cookies.
There are 8 provinces in Korea. Seoul & Gyungi-do, Ganwon-do, Choongchung-do, Gyungsang-do, Junla-do, and Jeju-island. Regional food varies due to location; forests, oceans, plains, etc. Seoul and Gyungi-do are the ones at the centre of Korea which has more plain seasoning than other locations. Gangwon-do has thick forests as well as ocean, it's famous for potato rice, spuid-sun-dae(stuffed spuid). Choongchung-do is well known for seafood and ricecake. Gyungsang-do and Junla-do both have very strong taste, where there are variety of food. Jeju-island does not have plain which naturally led increase in meat consumption.
